Cian O’Connor in Tryon bids 21,000 euro for Cassanova PB

Cassanova PB (Cornet Obolensky x Quaprice Z) werd voor 21.000 euro aangekocht door Cian O'Connor

From the FEI World Equestrian Games in Tryon came the 21,000 euro winning bid to SELL Foal Auction Brabant for Cassanova PB (Cornet Obolensky x Quaprice Z). The new owner is the Irish top rider Cian O’Connor, who had started his grandam Cutting Edge at 1.50m level and got interested in this tall-framed colt from breeder Peter Bastiaansen from Tilburg.

Cian O’Connor, earlier focussed on more experienced horses, has added rearing and training of youngster to his stable’s activities and in the past few weeks he invested in foals from good sport lines at various auctions.

SELL Foal Auction Brabant, this year on Saturday 22 September falling a few weeks earlier than usual, again received a lot of interest in the pleasant accommodation offered by Riding School Heijligers in Asten. A handful of foals were unfortunately not sold, but the others yielded an average price of 6,764 euro. Ten foals were knocked down for 10,000 euro and more and fourteen between 7,000 euro and 10,000 euro.

“We are very satisfied”, says SELL Foal Auction Brabant’s chairman Anton van Limpt. “This year we offered a very stable foal collection, the VIP sector was chock-a-block, there was interest from abroad, but several foals were also sold locally. I talked with many content breeders. I think that we can call this an honest auction with fine, realistic prices.”

For the complete foals with a lot of sport results in the pedigree buyers were soon found. Herman Seiger invested 16,000 euro in Nashville-Terma (Halifax van het Kluizebos x Contendro I x Guidam), bred by Wim van Gestel from Hooge Mierde out of the full sister to the KWPN stallion Brainpower which jumped at 1.50m level under Willem Greve. Ucello van Alle Winden Z (Untouchable x Lys de Darmen), born at Tacx Stables in Wassenaar, went for 11,000 euro.

Knocked down for 14,000 euro was the young, but superbly moving Naz Nyle Texel (Glock’s Toto jr. x Jazz x Burggraaf) by auctioneer Frederik de Backer. Wim van der Linden and Grieteke Oldenburger bred this colt out of the ZZ-Licht dressage mare Evieta Corieta Texel and were rewarded for this with 14,000 euro. The striking Nero van de Baanse (Franklin x Charmeur) bred by P.P.W. Janssen from Overloon foud a new owner in Nico Witte for 12,000 euro.

Dressage rider Lotte van den Herik can look forward to training the fantastically moving Nandoe Dorette (Franklin x Farrington), bred by Hans Koopman out of the line of Don Juan de Hus. This filly was sold for 10,500 euro. For 500 euro more, New Dutch Gold (Double Dutch x Negro) from breeder Henri van Gils changed hands.

Three foals were bought by the Brazilian showjumping rider Thiago Ribas da Costa. Other foals went to Germany, Finland, Great Britain and Italy. Stal van der Vleuten bought the filly Chanelly Z (H&M Chilli Willi x Voltaire), bred by Marcel Oomen.

Sportfonds Parapaard will receive 2,000 euro, the sales price for two Pieternel paintings, to which a donation from SELL Foal Auction Brabant will be added.
